6.1 Info

Patch 6.1 has hit and it’s been quite a busy time for us pet battlers! Between the new traveling pet tamers to the new Raiding With Leashes, it’s proven to have stirred up a lot of people from their normal routines.

Thankfully, most of the information that was presented to us before the patch became live is still the exact same information now. Whew! But there are a few things that I would like to go over and a bit more in-depth so that you can understand exactly what changed and what is new. 🙂

Achievements:

Raiding With Leashes III: Drinkin’ From The Sunwell – Requires you to collect the following battle pets from bosses in Black Temple, Hyjal Summit, and Sunwell Plateau:

Grotesque
Abyssius
Fragment of Anger
Fragment of Desire
Fragment of Suffering
Chaos Pup
Hyjal Wisp
Sister of Temptation
Leviathan Hatchling
Sunblade Micro-Defender
Stinkrot
Wretched Servant

Quests:

Critters of Draenor – This is a quest given by a traveling pet battler: Kura Thunderhoof (Horde) / Erris the Collector (Alliance). It is a daily that involves defeating Kura’s/Erris’ team of battle pets.

New Battle Pets:

Battle Pet Rewards:

Ultimate Battle-Training Stone – Instantly upgrades any pet to level 25.

Traveler’s Pet Supplies – Awarded from the daily quest Critters of Draenor. Has a chance to contain a Young Talbuk, Slithershock Elver, or Bone Serpent.

Pet Battle Changes:

  • Pet Charms earned from the Draenor tamers and the dailies Battle Pet Roundup/Scrappin’ and Mastering the Menagerie now stack to 1000 (up from 200). This should clear out some bag space for those of you, like myself, who have been hoarding the Pet Charms we earn. Also, Pet Charms are now account-bound instead of soulbound so you can send them all to one toon (should you wish) to free up even more bag space.

  • Battle-Training Stones are now Bind-on-Account (previously they were soulbound) so you can send them to your alts instead of having them take up bag space on your main toons. The new battle-training stones (Flawless Battle-Training Stone) are also BoA instead of soulbound. This is nice if you’re leveling pets up for things like the Celestial Tournament where you need a specific number of level 25 pets before you can attempt it.

  • As you may have noticed, the experience gained from the daily Menagerie battles has been nerfed. This may come as a surprise to some of you, but maybe not. Bird Day was simply too good at leveling pets, so I guess Blizzard figured that it had to go. Still, there are plenty of areas in Draenor where there are many pets grouped together to make leveling easy.

  • Along with the experience nerf, the difficulty of all Menagerie-related battles has been reduced. This includes the initial quest to unlock the Menagerie – Pets Versus Pests. While met with some criticism from the pet battling community, it has been theorized that Blizzard took this step in an attempt to bring more people into the pet battling community. (Why they aren’t here already, I don’t know.)

In the nerf, many of the pets have taken a hit to their stats and those that were labeled as “Boss” pets, no longer have that distinction. So if you were having a problem (especially with Quintessence of Light), then they should be much easier for you to defeat now.

New Pet Battle Information:

  • The Sea Calf has finally been added in-game! You can purchase the Sea Calf from Nat Pagle for 50 Lucky Coins. Unlike the Land Shark, the Sea Calf does not require you to have a specific reputation with Nat Pagle to learn the item.

As an added bonus, for those of you wanting to fish up the coins to purchase the pet, Lunkers now have an increased drop rate when fishing that scales with your Fishing skill (the higher your skill, the better the chance of a Lunker being caught). RNG still plays a large factor in this, though, as I’ve heard of people catching 5 Lunkers in 30 minutes to people Fishing for an hour and not finding any.

  • Any character that is level 100 and has a level 3 garrison can obtain a new quest, Unearthed Magic, from the NPC at the Menagerie in their garrison. The quest requires you to find a Strange Stone, which in turn will reward you with a new battle-training stone – Ultimate Battle-Training Stone. This new stone will immediately upgrade a pet to level 25, no matter what level the pet currently is. As with the difficulty nerf of Menagerie battles, this was probably done in an attempt to bring more people into the pet battling community. Also, if you use the stone on one of your pets, you can learn any level pet that you come into contact with from then on. So that level 25 pet that you bought from the Auction House but couldn’t learn yet? Well, after using this stone, you can. This may also help some with the Celestial Tournament, where they need a specific number of level 25 pets before you can attempt the Tournament, and you may need a certain pet at 25 that’s not leveled. This stone could easily take care of that.

The Strange Stone required for the quest is located right outside the Mine in your garrison. The quest can only be completed once per toon (not account). So if you have multiple level 100 characters, you can earn multiple stones that you can use to level your pets.

  • Graves is a new pet that is obtained from a Heroes of the Storm promotion. We aren’t given any other information about that, other than that is the way for us to earn the pet. It may be something like the Hearthstone promotion for the Hearthsteed, where we have to earn a certain amount of wins before we earn the pet (or mount in Hearthsteed’s case). Hopefully, we will be given more information about this pet and how we obtain it in the near future.

  • The Darkmoon Faire has added some new games to their repertoire for you to try out. One of the games, The Real Big Race, will award a new pet, a Race MiniZep if you complete the game with the Rocketeer within 20 tolls.

Many people have been wondering where they can obtain this pet at the Darkmoon Faire this month. The answer is that you can’t obtain this pet currently. The game that awards the pet will not be out until next month’s (April’s) Darkmoon Faire. Until then, all you can do is practice the game and hone your skills for when the next Darkmoon Faire comes around.

  • Raiding With Leashes is back! This time, we have to delve into the final 3 raids of the Burning Crusade expansion: Hyjal Summit, Black Temple, and the Sunwell. The achievement, Raiding With Leashes III: Drinkin’ From The Sunwell, requires us to collect 12 different pets across the 3 raids in order to obtain the much sought after K’ute.

You can find 3 pets in the Hyjal Summit. They are:

    Stinkrot
    Grotesque
    Hyjal Wisp

You can find 3 pets in the Sunwell. They are:

    Chaos Pup
    Wretched Servant
    Sunblade Micro-Defender

You can find 6 pets in Black Temple. They are:

    Abyssius
    Leviathan Hatchling
    Fragment of Anger
    Fragment of Desire
    Fragment of Suffering
    Sister of Temptation

  • There is also the traveling tamer daily quest, but I’ve devoted that to its own page. Hover over the 6.1 info link and it will appear. 🙂
